Fun Things to do in the Hill Country
· Please practice safe driving on these Texas highways! We request that you designate drivers for all alcohol-related events – this is very important to us. Also, be very careful of the deer on the roads! They may be small, but they can appear out of nowhere, and can do a lot of damage, so keep a look out.
· Texas roads are windy (as in a lot of curves) and mostly unlit, and a lot of times undivided. You will have oncoming traffic on your left and deer on your right! You may want to try to avoid driving at night if you are not used to driving in these conditions.
· It is quite common for drivers to be very friendly – on the highway; you’ll probably see them pull off on the shoulder to let you pass. Just a friendly wave back is all they expect! If you find that someone is coming up fast or trailing close behind, please drive in the shoulder until they pass. The shoulders are wide and safe to drive in for this purpose. Be sure to enjoy the scenic drives through Texas Hill Country!
· Austin has a relatively new Airport (Austin-Bergstrom International Airport-AUS), located off 71 just east of Hwy 183. There are still maps out there (even from AAA) with the old airport (Mueller Municipal Airport), so keep this in mind when you are looking at maps of Austin.
· Southwest Airlines flies into both Austin and San Antonio Airports. They will probably have some of the cheapest fares of any airline and the most flights. The drive time to Burnet will be almost the same from either the Austin or San Antonio airport.
